Hello
Middlesex Co NOW Folks!
Our next meeting will be on Monday, March 8th, 7 pm, at
the home of Rich and John. Dinner will be served once again,
courtesy of our hosts. Let me know if you're planning to
attend, so we can have enough food for everyone.
March is Women's History Month and, following a brief
business meeting, we will be showing Part 2 of "Not for
Ourselves Alone".
This video is a stunning testimonial to what can be accomplished
by strong determined women with a just cause, in this case
women's suffrage. It brings brings to life the friendship
between Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, two women
to whom every female in the U.S. owes a tremendous debt. Don't
miss it!
Did you know: The origin of the expression "Rule of
Thumb" is from British law, which until repealed in the early
1900's allowed a man to beat his wife with a stick, so long as
it is was no thicker than his thumb.
From MS Magazine: On the 20th anniversary of a
famous protest in which women drove cars through Riyadh, Saudi
women have launched "The Black Ribbon Campaign", demanding that
women have the right to marry, divorce, inherit, gain child
custody, travel, work, study, drive cars, and "live on an equal
footing with men." That last quote sounds a lot like the
original NOW charter. They are asking sympathizers globally to
wear black ribbons as a symbolic gesture of support.
From the NY Times: Abortion extremist Regina Dinwiddie,
a proponent of "justifiable homicide" is quoted as referring to
Scott Roeder, confessed killer of Dr. George Tiller, as "a
hero".
Lastly, also from MS: Annise Parker was elected
as Houston's first open lesbian mayor, and was inaugurated in
Jan with her partner holding the bible for her swearing in
ceremony.
In Memoriam: Mary Daly, 1928 - 2010, author, teacher,
philosopher, theologian, radical feminist.
I'll see you-all on March 8th. Don't forget to RSVP!
For Equality,
Skip Drumm, President
